You Don’t Have to Keep Feeling This Way

If depression or anxiety has been making it hard to get through your days – affecting your work, your relationships and your sense of self – you’ve come to the right place.

I’m Beverly Leftwich, a licensed therapist with over fifteen years of clinical experience. For several of those years I served as Clinician II in the Adult Mood Program at the Scrivener Center for Mental Health and Addiction Services at El Camino Health – widely regarded as one of the leading mental health programs in the country. While there I carried a full caseload, helped shape treatment strategy and program curriculum, and stepped in to lead the program when needed. When offered the Program Lead role, I turned it down – because working directly with patients is what I love most, and why I became a therapist in the first place.

I bring the same commitment to my private practice in Menlo Park.

You will benefit from the insights of talk therapy, and my approach goes beyond that. I will help you to understand what is happening in your mind and body, teach you evidence-based skills that actually work, and support you in building the confidence to use them. As you begin to integrate these practical skills, how you learn to cope with difficult situations begins to define you more than the stressors that brought you here.

How I Can Help

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety that won’t quiet down, depression that has taken the enjoyment out of your days, or the weight of a difficult period of your life – there are sound, evidence-based strategies that can genuinely help.

My approach draws on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practice and selected DBT skills - integrated with neuroscience-informed techniques that explain not just what to do, but why it works. Practical tools you can actually use, grounded in how the brain changes and heals.

Services

Anxiety Therapy

Anxiety is not a character flaw - it is your brain running a very old protection program in a world that has changed. Understanding why you worry is the first step toward changing your relationship with it. Practical, evidence-based roots for adults managing anxiety.

Depression Therapy

Depression is a medical condition that affects how the brain functions - not a failure of will or a weakness of character. With the right support, people can genuinely get better. Evidence-based therapy that holds hope on your behalf until you can hold it for yourself.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is the most extensively researched form of psychotherapy available. By learning to identify the automatic thought patterns that drive anxiety and depression, you can change how you think, feel and respond - building new neural pathways that make healthier responses increasingly natural.

DBT Skills & Mindfulness

Drawing selectively on DBT’s core skills - mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness - integrated with CBT in a practical, cohesive toolkit for adults navigating anxiety, depression and the complexities of daily life.
